My Story
About me
As with many people with ADHD, it took me a long time to stop floating through life and find out who I am. When I finally got there, I realised that stories were an essential part of my identity. I devour all sorts of narratives – from the more conventional books and films to more modern art forms, such as video games, graphic novels and visual novels.
I believe that stories are essential in helping us to improve the world for as many people as possible. I was only diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, and I experience a lot of grief as a result. If I had the right support, could I have done better at uni? Could I have gone to Oxbridge?
But I’m turning that around by pursuing my MA in English (Literary Linguistics) now! And I hope that by sharing my story, I can become part of the solution for other people.
Core interests and ideas
What I focus on
There are lots of different interests and focuses that I will try to use this website to marry together. You have my business ventures, my academic pursuits, and my roles as a teacher and EDI coordinator in a sixth-form college in London. Plus, I also want to be able to share my excitement for storytelling with you!
Shani’s Tutoring Ltd
I am the owner of Shani’s Tutoring Ltd, a business I started as an education blog, but has since turned into a place for me connect with students and provide free education resources. I’ve planned three branches: Shani’s Tutoring, the Writing Draft and Culture Stewards.
MA English (Literary Linguistics)
I find language, writing and storytelling fascinating. That’s why I started an MA that explores the relationship between English Language and Literature. The aim is to eventually complete a PhD in power and representation in speculative fiction.
Educator
I teach English, EPQ and Storytelling at a sixth form college in London. I also tutor English (Language, Literature and combined), History, Media Studies and Film Studies. My goal is to help all students experience the value of the arts and humanities!
EDI Coordinator
My goal is to remove any barriers that might stop someone from accessing knowledge, learning from others, and telling their story. I am a strong EDI advocate, both in my TLR and outside of school. I am always looking for ways to ensure all people feel like they’re valued and taken seriously!
